How To Do Responsive Web Design?

As the number of tablet PCs and smartphones grows, the need to know how to do responsive web design with CSS becomes more important. Responsive web design is a web design strategy that makes good use of flexible graphical layouts, multi-dimensional images, and appropriate cascading style sheets (Cascading Style Sheets) and adapts them for the different device sizes and touch screens orientations. The primary objective of responsive web design is to construct web pages that respond to the viewer’s device size and display orientation and hence change the displayed layout accordingly. It is made possible through a variety of techniques like adding images, changing background color or theme, changing style sheets, etc. In short, responsive web design makes the website responsive to the actual view of the target visitors.

Mobile devices like tablet PCs and smartphones are rapidly increasing in number. They are also coming up with their features and capabilities and this has resulted in enhanced responsive designs. As a result, the desktop and laptops are losing their grounds to a certain extent. The solution to this problem is responsive designing which is a set of techniques that help in designing websites that are responsive to mobile devices.

The mobile device has various resolutions that go beyond the usual desktop screens. Commonly used resolutions are 16 inches on the laptop and 10 inches on the desktop. In the case of laptop resolutions, the laptop’s size is the main constraint while designing a website that is going to be used on a larger-sized device. It is very important to identify the device resolution that the visitors of your website are using and then design your site accordingly so that it can easily be downloaded and used by the visitors.

While designing websites in terms of adaptive layout, make sure you get the best results from all the devices being used. Responsive websites load faster and also show reduced data or graphics as there is no need for large images. Some of the other things that need to be considered while creating these websites include avoiding unnecessary use of images, optimizing navigation on the page so that users do not have to scroll too much, and using JavaScript features wisely. With these ideas in mind, one can easily achieve a properly responsive web design.

Another major challenge that comes up for those who want to follow responsive web design guidelines is ensuring that the site looks good across all three popular screen resolutions. These include mobile, tablet, and desktop. While designing a mobile website, you should ensure that it contains all the elements needed by the users of the mobile devices including text, buttons, and images.

On the other hand, designing websites for desktops needs to be done differently than mobile sites. First of all, there is no need for mobile devices to have browsers installed in them, as desktops can just turn on the screen when the computer gets connected to a wireless network. The next important factor is that desktop computers have a higher DPI compared to mobile devices. Using CSS in responsive web design, one can achieve this while ensuring that the background color, font type, and size are all uniform. By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your website looks great on all three types of screens.
